Forum: forums Subject: How do I use the audio-uploads.archive.org page

I am not sure what to do when I get to the audio-uploads.archive.org page. I would like to upload some seeds that are ready to be downloaded. Can someone help?
Thanks for your time and energy,

2 ways:
1: use an ftp client -
the address:
ftp://audio-uploads.archive.org/
goes in the address bar, and your username and password go in the name and password fields
then press the connect button...
a remote directory opensm it's named:
ftp://audio-uploads.archive.org/
and if you have not uploaded anything, there is nothing in the directory... it's your personal upload directory...
you can drag files from your desktop or wherever, and drop them in the remote directory
(you drag the folder that the show is in,like'gd1776-07-04.shnf' - the highest level directory, all files should be in a directory [folder] before you upload.
----------
2nd way:
using a browser, you put the address and name and password in the address bar...:
ftp://USERMAME:PASSWORD@audio-uploads.archive.org/
press ENTER OR 'GO'
the remote directory opens in your browser window, you drag the folders there instead.

Does it take a while for the seed file to transfer to audio-uploads.archive.org after I drop the file in?
Thanks for all your time and effort to help me seed. Sweet!!

Yes.. it's not as fast as dragging and dropping folders on your local drive.

depending on your connection, and the amount of data in the file you are uploading, it will take some time for the upload to complete.

Once it has finished uploading, proceed to the

http://www.archive.org/audio/etree.php

page and locate the 'import' on the left-hand side navigation bar

this is the same link:

http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-contribute.php

once there, follow the directions to complete the import process.

there is a fairly brief delay after this step, before the show becomes available to download.

THANKS FOR SHARING!

Thanks for all the help. I am sorry to say but it has taken an hour to transfer the seed and nothing has happened yet. The bar that shows how much has been transfered doesn't show any movement. Is that suppose to happen?
I don't mean to be a bother. Sorry for asking so many questions. Once I get this thing going, I will be all set. The file is a shn that has been uploaded to furthur so I don't know if it will be able to transfer to the archives. Confused!!
THanks for all your help already.
You guys have been great. Our band is getting ready to make a link to the archives.
Keep up the good work.

ok, just as a test, you couldmakea new folder with the same name as the highest level directory you are uploading, put the show's .txt file into thatdirectoryand try uploading that... on any connection, that should take a matter of seconds to a scant few minutes.

then you can check to see if the folder arrived in the upload directory. if not, then there's something wrong.

It occurs to me that it might be something as simple as http:// at the beginning instead of ftp:// --- it should be ftp not http (?)

I am not certain, but think that some or even all browsers cannot upload via http (does not apply to people using ftp clients that are not browsers)

Thanks for all the help guys. Unless I have not found it yet, a page with all kinds of info like this (on uploading to archive.org) needs to be included on this site.
